When working with ChatGPT, mastering the skill of writing is the essential foundation before diving into prompt engineering..
ChatGPT has made significant improvements over the past two years, but mainly focused on the "output".
The fundamental purpose of this tool is chatting, which is why the input box remains small and is inconvenient for writing longer content. It is aimed at facilitating micro-interactions.
However, whenever I need to engage on a complex topic, I need to structure my thoughts properly.
Collaborating with a globally distributed team using tools like Slack, Lark, or Google Chat forced me develop this habit.
As a result, I have realized that when it comes to writing such content, I need software designed for this purpose. It cannot be a web editor or a 300px text box. It must be a real word processor that aids in writing.
Taking the time to structure my thoughts significantly enhances my interaction with ChatGPT. In short, the higher the quality of the input, the better the output quality from ChatGPT.
Such a process is not always necessary. Simply providing keywords, similar to a search engine, could sometimes suffice.
Now, regarding which word processor to use: I recommend AI Writer from Information Architects. It was designed to work on plain text files with markdown, which aligns with the type of content ChatGPT outputs.
I still regret that there is no integration of GPT.
To address this limitation, I created my own toolbox. It sends the content from AI Writer to a GenAI, using predefined, straightforward prompts such as "suggest improvements" to help me iterate faster and improve my writing.
